BENGALURU: A youth from Kerala died on the road waiting for an ambulance to arrive after a horrific accident while his friend died on the spot in the wee hours of Sunday.

The accident occurred on Kundana Road near Devanahalli after a speeding tractor crashed into their bike.
The ambulance arrived only after the golden hour, said friends. The deceased are identified as Ajo Raju (23) and his friend Appu Shaji (22), who hailed from Pala in Kottayam district, Kerala. They were part of a group of six and were on their way to Nandi Hills on three two-wheelers. The others are Johnson, Tinal, Arjun and Shabir.

“I called 108 ambulance and I was told that it would come in 20 minutes, but it arrived one hour late,”  said Shabir. Police sources said the accident occurred around 4.45am. Shaji and Raju were on a Honda Activa and Raju was riding pillion.

A speeding tractor coming from the opposite direction hit their bike and both were thrown up in the air and sustained severe injuries. Shabir immediately called an ambulance but it arrived very late. While Shaji died on the spot, Raju was declared brought dead at a nearby private hospital. Shabir said that Raju’s life could have been saved had the ambulance reached the spot early. “Doctors said Raju died due to heavy bleeding,” he said.

Tractor driver blamed for bike accident that killed 2

Efforts are on to nab the tractor driver who fled from the spot after colliding with a bike on Kundana Road near Devanahalli in the wee hours of Sunday.

One vicitm died on the spot while another died waiting for an ambulance to arrive. The speeding tractor coming from the opposite direction hit their bike and both were tossed up in the air. The negligence of the tractor driver probably resulted in the mishap, say police. The deceased are identified as Ajo Raju (23) and his friend Appu Shaji (22), who hailed from Pala in Kottayam district.

The group of six friends was on their way to Nandi Hills when the accident occurred. “Only one headlight of the tractor was on and hence the vehicle was not visible properly. The driver did not stop and escaped along with the vehicle. We immediately informed the police about the incident,” said Tanil, one of the friends. Vishwanathapura police have filed a case of reckless driving against the tractor driver and efforts are on to nab him. Hotel management graduate Raju had come to the city three days ago to attend a job interview. He was accompanied by Shaji. Both Raju and Shaji stayed together in Bagalur at the house of their friends, who study in a private college.
