Vidyaranyapura police inspector Puneeth Kumar then shot Nakul in the leg with his service revolver. Nakul was immediately shifted to Victoria Hospital for treatment.

Interestingly, this is the third incident of firing this year in which inspector Puneeth is involved.

On February 28, Puneeth opened fire on a chain snatcher Manja and in January he had opened fire on two burglars, injuring them. In all the cases, he claimed to have shot at the suspects in self defence.

DCP (North-East) Harsha said, “If there is a genuine reason, police have to resort to firing as an act of self defence. A case will be registered against the accused for attacking the policemen and an officer will carry out the investigation. The action of the inspector will also be probed.”
