Two CET toppers come up trumps in JEE Advanced, bag top ranks

Two toppers who aced in the Karnataka common entrance test (CET) have also made it to the top in JEE Advanced exams.

BENGALURU: Two toppers who aced in the Karnataka common entrance test (CET) have also made it to the top in JEE Advanced exams.

Sumanth R Hegde who scored the second rank in CET and Anirudh S who bagged the third rank in CET, both students of BASE, have bagged ranks in JEE Advanced. While Anirudh has an All India rank of 131, Sumanth scored a rank of 504. Yet another topper from Bengaluru Ninad Huligol has a rank of 217.

Setting a timetable and abiding by it helped Anirudh ace the exams. The student from RV PU College, Jayanagar scored 99 per cent in PU exams where he studied physics, chemistry, maths and electronics.
“The level of questions for JEE is completely different. Unlike CET exams, they check our ability to understand concepts in JEE. Basics have to be strong,” he said.

Anirudh aspires to study computer science in IIT Madras. “A methodical approach always helps while preparing for exams. An important tip for those preparing for these exams is to keep calm,” he added.
Ninad Huligol believes that practice tests helped him work on his weak areas and improve. “For JEE, one needs to solve a lot of problems,” he said.

Huligol is passionate about research and aspires to study Pure Science at IISc. “My preference would be physics. However, I will keep my options open,” he added. He is a keyboard player and a star gazer.
Sumanth R Hegde, a student from VVS Sardar Patel PU College, Bengaluru ranked second in the state in the engineering category in CET. He scored a rank of 504 in JEE advanced.

He dreams of making it to either IIT Bombay or Madras. Sumanth scored 586 on 600 in PU board exams and was also an SSLC topper from the state previously. It was studies first and everything else took a back seat, according to Hegde.

Mani Mannampalli, a student FIIT-JEE, who studied at AECS Magnolia Maaruti PU College has an All India Rank of 415. Mannampalli scored 93 per cent in his PU.

“I have been putting in consistent efforts for two years now. I did not take up CET as my JEE Main scores were good and I knew I would get a good rank in the Advanced exams,” he added. He aspires to study computer science in one of the IITs.
