18 months after exams, 900 students still wait for marks cards

BENGALURU: Over 900 students of Maharani College of Arts, Commerce and Management for Women in Bengaluru have not received their marks cards for the 4th and 5th semester of undergraduate course even 18 months after the examination was held.
The examinations for the final semester (6th) are over and results are expected to be announced soon, but the students are unable to apply for postgraduate courses in other universities as they don’t have marks cards for 4th and 5th semester courses.

“I need to apply for M.Com in University of Mysore. Seats under inter-university quota are few, and I don’t have marks cards of two semesters.  I’m scared that I may not get a seat if the university continues to delay,” said Bhavya, a B.com student.
Students have submitted several requests for their marks cards to college authorities, who say they have forwarded the same to Bangalore University.

“We don’t know the reason for the delay. Marks cards should come from the university. Until then even we are helpless,” said an official from the college.
“We tried to approach officials at the university examination section. They said the college had not paid the examination fee for core subjects on time. Whatever the reason is, we are suffering,” said Ahana, another student.
Karunashree, a B.Com student, said, “If it is due to evaluators’ mistake or due to delay by college, why should we suffer? It’s been 18 months and the university is unable to sort the matter. This is a shame on the university.”

University authorities said the problem was caused to a delay in evaluation process of an optional subject as the college did not pay the exam fees on time. “The college later paid the fees along with a penalty and the evaluation was completed. But the problem is that the evaluators entered wrong marks on the OMR sheets due to which the marks cards are being delayed,” said a university official.
University authorities confirmed that the results for 4th and 5th semeters were announced long back, but due to confusion in marks, many students approached them.

“After the results were announced, many students started approached us saying their marks were different. Considering this, we placed it before the syndicate and formed a committee to look into the matter,” an official added.
BU authorities said the marks cards of 4th and 5th semesters will be issued along with 6th semester results in the next four or five days.  The principal of the college Prof Shantakumari was unavailable for comment.
