BENGALURU: With great effort and follow-ups with authorities, residents living near Ajanta Theater on the Annaswamy Mudaliar Road, Ulsoor managed to get a road dug up by the BWSSB two years back, filled and newly laid.

However, it had not been even three months since this road was laid when to their horror the road was dug up again two days back by BSNL.

Wing Commander (retd) Ajay Sapra, a resident whose house is next to the road was immediately alarmed and informed members of the Resident Welfare Association. “On Monday, I noticed that the road and a portion of the pavement was also dug up and the rubble was spread all across the road,” he says. The area is a main arterial road that connects Kamanahalli and other areas and sees heavy traffic. “The road became narrow as a result of the digging,” he adds.

Sapra also pointed out that the area was mostly inhabited by retirees and that no one had seen any digging the day before.

The people had stealthily dug the road during the day and no one noticed, he adds.

Purushottam Venkataram, another resident pointed out that when the matter was brought to the notice of BS Prasad, Chief Engineer,(East), BBMP, he immediately asked his subordinates for criminal charges to be filed against those who had dug the road. But there was one small problem. “While his response was immediate, no one, however, knew who had dug the road,” says Purushottam.

“There was so much struggle involved in setting this road right,” he says.

A senior BSNL official says, “A private college requested us to lay cables, so we dug it up. The college said they have got permission from BBMP”.
