Bengaluru bar employees murder customer, dump body in drain

BENGALURU: Six waiters of a bar, who had allegedly murdered a customer and dumped his body in a drain, were arrested by Kengeri Police on March 15. Though the murder occurred on February 28, the body was discovered from a drain near Kengeri, on March 3.

The deceased has been identified as Suresh alias Lodde (28), while the arrested are Suresh, Shivakumar, Avinash, Somashekar, N Nagaraj and Kanakaraj—all employees of Hamsa Bar and Restaurant.

Police said that on February 28, at around 10 pm, Suresh had come to Hamsa Bar and Restaurant and consumed alcohol. Around 11.45 pm, waiter Shivakumar had gone to Suresh, asking him to pay the bill, before any of his other orders are taken. Enraged, Suresh refused to pay the bill and threatened to kill Shiva. 

Soon after, a fight broke out between the bar staff and Suresh and in a fit of rage, the bar staff strangled him to death with a wire. Later, the accused put his body in a gunny bag, took it on a two wheeler to Kengeri drainage behind Venkateshwara theatre on Vidhyapeeta Road and dumped it.

The incident came to light on March 3 when passersby noticed a body in the drainage. Based on CCTV footage, police arrested the accused.

After the incident, the accused had continued to work in the same bar, police said.
