BENGALURU: A joyride by four PU students ended in tragedy after one of them came under the wheels of a lorry and died on the spot at Madiwala junction on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as 17-year-old G Arun Kumar, a resident of Madiwala.  He was riding on a bike with three other friends -- Kumaresh, Subhash and Arun at the time of the incident. All of them were students of Madiwala Government First Grade College.

According to police, the accident took place around 2pm, when these four students were on a two-wheeler. Near Madiwala junction, a lorry coming from Electronics City hit their bike which Kumaresh was riding. The deceased Arun Kumar fell on the right side of the road while three others fell on the left. He was run over by the lorry as the driver Arjun attempted to escape. His friends sustained minor injuries.
While Arun Kumar’s body was shifted to St John’s hospital for post-mortem other three were shifted to a private hospital for treatment.

HSR Layout traffic police said,“Arun Kumar had borrowed the bike from a friend. The students were neither wearing helmet nor having driving licence. They were all minors.”
The college authorities said, “All four students attended the exam at Government First Grade College, Agara in HSR Layout. After that, they left together for Madiwala College. The accident took place en route.”
Commotion prevailed near Madiwala Junction for a while as the locals assaulted driver Arjun and pelted stones at his lorry. HSR Layout traffic police pacified the mob and took Arjun to another hospital.
