Gold worth Rs nine lakh seized from woman

Police said that they have cracked three cases, including a case where she had stolen gold from her relative’s house.

BENGALURU: A 28-year-old habitual offender who stole gold ornaments from neighbouring houses was arrested by Vidyaranyapura police on Friday. Police said that they have cracked three cases, including a case where she had stolen gold from her relative’s house.


The accused is Shilpa, a resident of Vidyaranyapura and a native of Holenarasipura in Hassan district. Police have seized gold ornaments worth `9 lakh.
A police source said, “Shilpa was living in Vidyaranyapura with her husband John. On December 17, 2016, a woman lodged a complaint stating that 180 grams of gold ornaments were stolen from her house. Following an investigation, police arrested Shilpa and found that she was involved in two other thefts in the neighbourhood.”

In 2013 too, a theft was reported in Shilpa’s relative’s house. Police had questioned Shilpa then but let her go as she was pregnant. Police said her husband, who runs a garage, had no idea about his wife’s doings. Shilpa is now in judicial custody.

In a press meet, North Deputy Commissioner of Police Labhu Ram said they have arrested 10 people in the past week and recovered 1.4kg of gold, 27 two wheelers and 80 mobile phones worth `63 lakh.
