BWSSB pipeline leaks for a week; complaint lodged but in vain

Thousands of litres of drinking water have gone down the drain ever since the main water pipeline of BWSSB began leaking at MN Krishna Rao Park Road in Basavanagudi.

BENGALURU: Thousands of litres of drinking water have gone down the drain ever since the main water pipeline of BWSSB began leaking at MN Krishna Rao Park Road in Basavanagudi. A concerned citizen had filed a complaint a week ago but water department officials did not take any action. They visited the spot only on Thursday but are still in the process of identifying the leak.

Vikram Sinha, a resident who called up BWSSB and complained about the leak, said, “There was no action taken on my complaint. So I made my friend lodge another complaint today (Thursday) and they have visited the spot now to check the problem.”

By the time the leak is likely to be set right, water is likely to go waste for three more days.

Sinha, also an RTI facilitator, added, “They speak about over 40 per cent of drinking water being unaccounted for. They need to act immediately in such cases if they want to reduce water leaks.” He added that work has begun on the street by Thursday afternoon to identify the problem.

Assistant Engineer at Krishna Rao Park N Dinesh said he had not received any complaint about water leakage and collected the complainant’s number from this reporter.
