BENGALURU:  A 36-year-old daily wage labourer was thrashed by the public and handed over to the police after he set ablaze three trucks loaded with food on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on the premises of the APMC yard near Anekal and the food was meant for Anganwadi centres in rural areas. Imthiyaz is a resident of Garepalya and works in a garage.

The police said around 3.30 pm, Imthiyaz came to meet his friend, who works at the APMC yard, and from whom he had sought financial help. He was also inebriated and, on not finding his friend, he set fire to the trucks.

A passerby noticed this and alerted the locals who thrashed him before handing him over to the Sarjapura police. The incident was caught on CCTV.
