Bengaluru police: Canteen employee attacks woman with blade, held

An employee of a canteen attached to an I-T firm attacked a techie with a blade on Thursday.

BENGALURU: An employee of a canteen attached to an I-T firm attacked a techie with a blade on Thursday. The accused is Biranchi (28) who was working in canteen of an IT firm at Garebavipalya in Bandepalya police limits in the city.

According to police, Biranchi, a native of Odisha, seems mentally unstable. He allegedly slashed the hand of Sneha when she stretched her hand outside the window of a bus in which she was travelling to work and ran away from the spot. The incident occurred when the bus stopped at Koodlu Gate junction at 11 am.
Other employees in the bus who saw Sneha bleeding took her to a private hospital. Later, she a lodged complaint at Begur police station and the case was transferred to the jurisdictional Bandepalya police station.

In the evening, Bandepalya police arrested Biranchi at Koodlu Gate and sent him to a hospital for medical check-up.Police sources said the accused made varying statements regarding why he had attacked the girl. “At first, he said he attacked the girl as she and her friends had teased him. Subsequently, he gave a different version of why he attacked her,” police said.The investigation is still in initial stage, police added.
