Gourmet Passport, an app that gives foodies the benefit of a ‘buy one get one free’ offer in fine dine restaurants and bars in the city was launched here on Thursday.The offers are on specific items like a main course, drinks or buffet and not for all the items in the menu. And the offers are valid through specific hours, say 9 am to 9 pm.
Started by Rocky Mohan, the man behind the company that makes the famous Old Monk rum, he says, “There are a number of apps and companies that give out vouchers and offers. However all these are very confusing. You go to a restaurant and then half of the time you are trying to figure out the offers. I thought why not just cut out the clutter and keep it simple,” says Rocky.
One can avail the offers after paying a subscription fee of `1,000 per year. In Bengaluru, subscription fee has been kept at `599 for a short duration of time. As many as 60 eateries in Bengaluru are on board the app and more are set to be added soon. A maximum of three offers can be availed in each eatery for the superscription period.
“The reason for keeping the offers limited is simple. This way a person is able to get a taste of what different restaurants have to offer. We do not want a situation where people go to the same place every time," says Rocky.
Bengaluru is the third city where the app has been launched. It was first launched in Delhi NCR region around 18 months ago followed by Mumbai in April. A total of 270 restaurants are on board the app as of now with around 1.5 lakh people who have already availed the benefits of the app. Rocky says that the plan is to enter Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata by 2018. The app can be downloaded from Apple Store or Google's Play Store. It has been downloaded around 10,000 from on the latter.
