BENGALURU: With just two days remaining for IPL to kick off, supporters of Bengaluru team Royal Challenegrs Bengaluru are all geared up to cheer for the team and this time, with a Kannada anthem.

Namma Karnataka Memes team has come up with the anthem, which has caught the attention of lakhs of IPL supporters. The anthem has got over 2.5 lakh hits on Youtube and was trending at number one on YouTube on the day of its release. On the second day, the video was trending at number 2. The video has been shot in and around Chinnaswamy stadium- RCB’s homeground.

The lyrics, music and the video of the RCB anthem encompasses the spirit of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL, the tournament that brings together the best from the world showcase their prowess. Speaking about the anthem, Pavan JD, director, says, “There was no popular Kannada anthem for RCB. Since there is lot of hopes on the team this year, we decided to come up with the anthem. In fact, the video was planned last year and some portions were also shot. But we couldn’t release it last year due to RCB’s poor performance. This time we released it before the IPL starts so that the RCB fever will catch up.”

The video is done in collaboration with Namma Team RCB, an RCB fan page with over 5 lakh followers. They are also planning it to play it loud with a flash mob in the stands during RCB matches in Bengaluru, this season. Rapper SID has composed music and sung for the album. He has also edited the video.

Nagarjun Sharma, who has written Tili Sanje song for the film Operation Alamelamma, has written the lyrics for the anthem. SID says, “Music was composed keeping in mind the energy level of RCB fans in stands. We have used typical Bangalore Kannada for rap. Our intention was to make an anthem that the local crowd can connect to, sing, enjoy and cheer for RCB.” RCB has made three final appearances in the IPL, losing all of them — in 2009 to the Deccan Chargers, in 2011 to the Chennai Super Kings and in 2016 to the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Fans, however, are hopeful of ‘Ee Sala Cup Namde’!
