Wanted youth attacks cop, gets shot

BENGALURU: A 26-year-old youth was shot at after he attacked a policeman with a machete when they tried to catch him. The incident took place near Singaiahanapalya railway track in Mahadevapura police station limits on Thursday morning.Charan Raj, a resident of Kaverinagar, sustained injuries in the firing and is undergoing treatment. Mani, a police constable, is also injured in the incident.

Police said that Charan was wanted in an attempt to murder case. On Tuesday around 11 pm, Charan, along with his associates, had attacked Ajay (27), near KPTCL office in Garudacharpalya. The accused persons had tried to hack Ajay to death and the latter is battling for life in a hospital. Mahadevapura police were on the lookout for the accused persons.

On Thursday morning, sub-inspector G Narayanaswamy and three constables received information that Charan was near Singaiahanapalya railway track. They rushed and surrounded Charan. Refusing to surrender, Charan allegedly attacked the policemen with a machete and constable Mani sustained injuries in his arms. In self-defence, the sub inspector shot a bullet at Charan and injured him in his left leg.
“Both the accused and the injured policeman were rushed to the hospital and they are undergoing treatment. Efforts are on to nab the other absconding accused in the case,” the police added.
