Two students held for assaulting BMTC driver

Anekal police have arrested two BBA students of Alliance University for allegedly assaulting a BMTC staff over a trivial issue.

BENGALURU: Anekal police have arrested two BBA students of Alliance University for allegedly assaulting a BMTC staff over a trivial issue. The incident took place on Thursday evening and the driver, Gururaj Madla has filed a complaint against four students.

The arrested are Lalith Kumar Yadav (21) and his friend Shubam Balani (21), both natives of Gujarat, and final year students residing in the college hostel on Bannerghatta Road.

A senior police officer said four students chased a BMTC bus and attacked the driver and conductor while abusing them. On Wednesday, the students showed a signal by using their legs at a nearby bus stop after which the driver stopped the bus. However, they did not board the bus and started smiling at the driver. Angry over their behaviour, the driver had a heated argument with them and then the locals intervened to calm the driver.

On Thursday evening, the students identified the bus which was heading towards Bannerghatta and chased it on three bikes. They stopped the bus in the middle of the road and attacked conductor Nagappa K and driver Gururaj brutally. The residents recorded the incident on their mobile phones and shared it on social networking sites. A case was filed by Anekal police.

“In a bid to escape, the students left a bike and a bag containing the college ID card. Based on that, the police identified the students and nabbed them immediately. However, only two could be nabbed, the officer said.

Manjunath R, legal advisor for Alliance University told TNIE, “We were not aware of the incident. We came to know about their arrest and then their parents were informed. We will take further action against them.”
