Bengaluru cop knocked down by speeding goods auto

A police constable, who was checking vehicles in view of the upcoming elections, was knocked down by a speeding goods auto near Hejjala Gate in Bidadi police station limits.

BENGALURU: A police constable, who was checking vehicles in view of the upcoming elections, was knocked down by a speeding goods auto near Hejjala Gate in Bidadi police station limits in Ramanagar district on Saturday night.

Police said that Mahalinga, 32, was on night duty on Saturday. He, along with another policeman, was checking vehicles that were heading from Bengaluru towards Mysuru. Around 10.20 pm, Mahalinga had stopped a car for checking. As nothing was found, he asked the car to leave and moved towards the roadside without noticing a speeding goods auto approaching in his direction.

“The auto was too close and even the driver could not control the vehicle. The vehicle knocked him down and Mahalinga sustained multiple injuries. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and was admitted. But he succumbed to injuries within a few minutes,” the police added.
