Judge’s report confirms Rs 1,500 crore scam in BBMP

The scam covers 285 civil works in the three Assembly constituencies of Bengaluru and is said to be one of the biggest in BBMP limits.

BENGALURU: Retired High Court judge Justice Nagmohan Das submitted a 600-page report to Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara regarding the fake bill scam estimated to be worth at least Rs 1,500 crore, here on Thursday. The scam had occurred in Bengaluru between 2008 and 2012.

The scam pertains to the disbursal of civil works through fake bills in three constituencies of Bengaluru — Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Malleswaram and Gandhinagar.

“The report confirms that the scam had occurred in the disbursal of the civil works of these three constituencies,” he said. There was also a ‘collusion of politicians and officials in the BBMP’, in carrying out the elaborate scam in the city limits, he said.

Though Justice Das did not reveal the details of the report, he noted that the four-member committee which investigated the scam had recommended criminal and civil proceedings against the accused. The report, he said, has been submitted to investigating agencies such as Lokayukta and CID, with directions to conduct enquiries on the findings of the report. However, they are yet to submit a report.
