BENGALURU:  Traffic was affected on Airport road after a speeding car being driven by a 20-year-old engineering student toppled at Kodigehalli on Tuesday afternoon. Another man and an elderly woman were injured in the accident and Hebbal traffic police diverted the traffic from flyover to Esteem Mall.
The deceased has been identified as Sachin, a resident of Kempapura Hebbal and he was in his second year of engineering in a private college. His father, Sainath, works in a private company. A cab driver Afsar, (32) and Lakshmi Varadaraj (61) are recovering in a private hospital.

A senior police officer from Hebbal Traffic police station said the incident occurred around 1.45pm when Sachin returning home from college. He was driving his car very fast and in a bid to overtake another car he crashed into the median. His car toppled over on to the opposite side due to the impact. It then rammed into a cab which was heading towards the airport.

Sachin was severely injured and was rushed to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Afsar and his passenger Lakshmi who were injured in the mishap were shifted to a hospital by passersby before traffic police rushed to the spot.

Following the mishap traffic on the flyover was diverted. It took almost half an hour to tow away the vehicles involved in the mishap and people going to the airport had to take the service road. “Reckless driving is the cause for the mishap and we have not found any documents in the car so far. We are yet to ascertain whether Sachin had a valid driving license,” the police officer said.
