BHUBANESWAR: The third edition of the ‘Make-in-Odisha’ conclave will be organised between November 30 and December 4 in the city. The biennial global investors’ meet was delayed by two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Announcing the window for the State’s flagship investment summit at the Dubai investors’ meet on Wednesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik extended the invitation to businesses in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to attend the conclave and witness the opportunities the State offers.

The Make-in-Odisha 2022 event would focus on sectors including metals and metal downstream, chemicals and petrochemicals, textiles and apparel including technical textiles, food processing including seafood processing, Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM), logistics and clean energy.

Though the conclaves organised in 2016 and 2018 brought in a significant increase in the quantum of new investments to Odisha and helped create a diversified industrial base in the State, it was disrupted due to the coronavirus outbreak in 2020.

However, despite the Covid-19 crisis, Odisha has emerged as a leading investment destination and attracted investment proposals with over Rs 4.4 lakh crore during the last three years with more than 1.53 lakh employment opportunities.

While the first edition of the conclave in 2016 had got 124 investment intents worth more than Rs 2 lakh crore and employment opportunities for over one lakh people, the second conclave had witnessed investment proposals worth Rs 4.19 lakh crore for projects across 15 sectors with job opportunities for around 5.91 lakh people.

Reiterating that the State government has a vision of making Odisha as one of the best investment destinations, the Chief Minister said the positive policy framework, robust infrastructure, skilled human resources and result oriented administrative set up will help Odisha realise this vision. As the restrictions were imposed during the pandemic period, the State government continued investment outreach activities on virtual platforms.
