CM Majhi announces Rs 1 hike in MDM cost
BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday announced a Rs 1 hike in mid-day meal (MDM) cost.
Currently, the MDM expenditure is Rs 5.90 per student in primary schools and Rs 8.82 for upper primary student. This will benefit around 43 lakh students in over 50,400 schools across the state, he said.
Majhi also said the state government will bear the entire food expenses of hostel students in Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs). “A guideline had earlier been issued to collect Rs 2,000 towards food expenses from students residing in Adarsha Vidyalaya hostels.
However, keeping in view the requests of parents and guardians, the government has decided to bear this expense on its own. The government will bear around Rs 187 crore additional expense on this,” he said.
Majhi said 6,794 model primary schools will also be opened under Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School initiative to promote quality education at village and panchayat level. Steps will also be taken for development of 51 centenary-old schools in the state, he said.
