CHENNAI:  St Thomas Mount police have arrested three youth, including two sons of retired police officials in connection with a robbery case.

The truth came to light when Manikandan Tirumalai (30), a software engineer of Adambakkam filed a police complaint that three unidentified men attacked him with a knife and took away his credit-cum-debit card.

Later, they withdrew Rs 25,000.

On May 11, Manikandan stepped out at 11 pm to see the upcoming police quarters near the Mount subway.

At the site, three masked men allegedly dragged him to a nearby corporation garden.

On finding only Rs 200 with him, they took away his card and forced him to reveal the PIN.

One of them then went to an ICICI ATM nearby and withdrew Rs 25,000 and informed his friends. They later discarded the card and freed Manikandan.

While withdrawing money, they had used Manikandan’s cell phone to call each other which gave the police enough clues to trace them out.

Investigation found the accused as Kapilraj (21), son of a retired head constable Raja and Anand, son of Bala, a police official who had taken voluntary retirement. The third one was identified as Tamilvanan. All the three were produced at Chengelpettu court and remanded to custody.
