CHENNAI: The photography exhibition titled Women Changing India, is a joint effort of Magnum Photos Agency and Zubaan, a Delhi-based publishing house specialising in books for and about women in South Asia. As we browse through the photographs, we realise that the modern Indian woman is not just an embodiment of Shakthi, Lakshmi or Saraswathi, but is the queen of multi-tasking. Six professional photographers Olivia Arthur, Martine Franck, Raghu Rai, Alex Webb, Alessandra Sanguinetti and Patrick Zachmann have captured women working in self-help groups, village panchayats (also featuring former panchayat leader, and wellknown Tamil poet and novelist, Salma who is also the chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Social Welfare Board), Mumbai film industry (Katrina Kaif, on sets at Malsej Ghat, Maharashtra; production designer, Manisha Khandelwal and Farah Khan and Kiran Rao on the sets with Aamir Khan), women icons like Anjolie Ela Menon, artist, Mahashweta Devi, poet and author, Laila Tyabji, Founder and Chairperson of Dastkar, society for craft and crafts people and more. Essays written by eminent Indian authors highlighting the vital role that women play in India today have been published along with the photographs.

Modern-day women play a crucial role in driving the economy and creating business opportunities and help reshaping the face of India. This photo exhibition has captured the incredible contribution of women in modern day India. The exhibition, which marks 150 years' celebration of BNP Paribas, was on at Lalit Kala Akademi and will be held in major cities across India.
