CHENNAI: The Madras HC has pulled up Traffic KR Ramaswamy for wasting the court’s time by filing two writ petitions in the name of public interest litigations (PILs). The writ petitions were wholly misconceived and amounted to wasting the court’s time, the First Bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivagnanam observed on Tuesday.

“The petitioner appears in person and files several writ petitions by way of PILs claiming that he is taking up the cause of the general public. So far as these two petitions are concerned they are not in public interest. If the petitioner is so interested to do genuine public service, this court is ready to allow him to render legal services through the TNSLSA,” the bench said and dismissed the petitions.

In one petition, Ramaswamy wanted to remove the statue of Dr Ambedkar, installed inside the Madras HC campus on April 25,2010.

The other petition, a quo-warranto writ petition, questioned under what authority M Karunanidhi held the post of CM and GK Vasan, the post of Union Minister. Ramaswamy alleged that the duo had violated the court’s earlier orders against installation of digital banners.
