India’s introduction and consequent appeal to specialised, high-end personal care happened long back. The population in metropolises is increasingly opting for a healthy way of life coupled with the goodness of nature, and Chennai is eager to catch up. Making a note of these fertile grounds for holistic therapies, Singapore-based wellness brand, Kenko opened its first store in India at Chennai’s Express Avenue Mall.

The Kenko Reflexology and Fish Spa claims to offer rejuvenating wellness experiences to customers, including children aged above four.

“Reflexology is Kenko’s signature treatment. You don’t have a reflexology and fish spa in Chennai. Our fish spa is elaborate and can accommodate 22 people at once. It naturally exfoliates your feet and is also our USP. This breed of fish, also called ‘doctor fish’, nibble away the dead skin, improve oxygen flow and make your feet look nice, says Ajit Menon, COO, Kenko Reflexology and Fish Spa.

For those of you who’d like a dose of entertainment along with relaxation, Kenko offers a range of 1000 DVDs for you to pick from. Reflexology is a therapy that involves massaging of the feet’s reflex points to restore natural flow of energy.

“We also offer ear candling — a soothing treatment that relieves one from migraine,” says Ajit.

With interiors comprising elements of tropical overtones, mood lighting and oriental finishes, Kenko has facilities including massage suites, specially designed reflexology chairs, head massage chairs and massage rooms, besides the fish spa. Kenko chain of Reflexology centres was founded by Dr Jimi Tan in 1991 and is now all set to open its doors in Coimbatore and Puducherry.

In Chennai, the spa was inaugurated by Kavita Singhania, Managing Director, Express Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, in a glitzy event attended by Sidney Sladen, actors Kasthuri, Ashok, Aparna, Shyam Ganesh, director of Sillunu Oru Kadhal, Krishna and Priya Manikandan among others. The spa is located at S 289, 2nd floor, Express Avenue, Royapettah.
