CHENNAI: The fake marksheet scam raised its ugly head again on Tuesday, with a Plus One student being arrested on charges of submitting a forged Class X certificate to his school.
About 10 days ago, Sathish Kumar,17, who is in Plus One in an Anglo-Indian higher secondary school on Anna Salai, was pulled up by his class teacher for being poor at his studies, a police officer told Express. “The teacher became suspicious as to how he managed to clear his Class X examination and took up the issue with the school headmaster,” he said.
On suspicion, the headmaster sent Sathish Kumar’s marksheet to the Directorate of Government Examinations at Nungambakkam for verification. When the mark certificate was examined by the officials, they found that it was forged. A complaint was lodged with the City Commissioner of Police, who directed it to the Triplicane police station for further investigation. Upon questioning Sathish Kumar, it came to light that he had failed the SSLC examination conducted by the Tamil Nadu State Board of School Examination, the officer said. He also failed in the supplementary examination in Tamil and Science and applied for retotalling. “Even after retotalling, he failed in Tamil,” the inspector said.
Sathish Kumar procured a forged certificate and submitted it at the Anglo-Indian school where he applied for admission to Plus One. He was arrested and produced before a juvenile court.
