CHENNAI: The wait for budding actors is finally over, with a first-of-its-kind acting school opening in the city recently. Radikaa Sarath Kumar’s Radaan Mediaworks has joined hands with Anupam Kher’s acting school, Actor Prepares, to give upcoming artistes of Chennai an opportunity to formally train as actors and learn the ropes from professionals from the industry.

Anupam Kher, who made his film debut with the critically acclaimed Saaraansh, is known to be one of the best acting teachers in the country. His school, which is now six years old with branches in Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and now Chennai, has trained over 500 acting students, most of whom have established themselves in not only the cinema industry, but also in TV and modelling sectors, as well, especially in Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Chennai.

Radaan has been producing television serials, tele films, movies and game shows for over two decades now. Under the able stewardship of Radikaa Sarath Kumar, who will also be involved in teaching at the new institute, Radaan has produced over 10,000 episodes of daily soap content catering to the south Indian audience.  With this collaboration, it is aiming to add another dimension to its media wing.

Each programme, which has a well-researched syllabus, is conducted over a three month period and will include comprehensive training in performing arts including yoga, martial arts, and so on.

With each batch restricted to 50 students, there will be a pre-selection testing process for all applicants. At the end of the programme, the students will receive certificates of completion. Prominent film as well as television artistes will also be brought in as guest faculty, to help students understand the nuances of acting  in front of a camera with a practical perspective.

The Chennai wing of Actor Prepares aims at building a database of actors for the industry. It is also looking forward to invite directors who will visit and coach the students. This will not only help aspiring actors in networking and building contacts, but will also give them an opportunity to showcase their talent in front of industry stalwarts.
