Members of People for Cattle in India (PCFI) intercepted three trucks near Poonamallee that were allegedly transporting cattle illegally and rescued a total of  80 cattle on early Sunday morning.

Following a complaint lodged by the PCFI against two slaughter houses, which were reportedly into illegal butchering, a total of nine persons were arrested.

PFCI members said a team of 20 intercepted the trucks that were on its way from Chilkur in Andhra Pradesh to Kerala via Pollachi at the Chennai-Poonamallee Highway.

The Nazarethpet police held six drivers of the three trucks rescuing 77 cattle including 22 cows  and three butchers from the slaughter houses from where three cattle were rescued. “One of the trucks was covered so nobody could find that the cattle were dumped in them,” said Arun of PFCI.
