The Duchess Club of Chennai is organising the 12th edition of ‘The Duchess Car Rally’ for spreading its message — ‘Uncompromise on Girl Child’ on July 7, to be presented by Akshaya Private Ltd.

The annual event is conducted on the first Sunday of every July.

The rally, which will cover a distance of 80 to 90 km is based on the ‘time-distance-speed format’, and is  open to all women. The rally will be flagged off from Hotel Savera at 9 am and will culminate at Akshaya Metropolis, Maraimalainagar.

The event is said to be a  sort of encouragement for women to take up challenges and have some time off their schedule. “This event is about precision and not about race or competition,” said Amit Arora, GM operations, Madras Motor Sports Club, which joins hands with the Duchess Club every year to organise this event.

Each team has four members and each member has a separate task to do. Apart from driving and directing, there will be questionnaires which need to be filled during the drive. The whole package promises to be adventurous and fun for the participants.

Sherin, who has been participating in the event regularly for the past 12 years said, “Every year I eagerly wait for this event because this is so much fun and one thing which an event like this teaches is the team effort and combined learning that make it successful.”

Duchess Club has always been an active participant not only in supporting, but also in empowering girl children between the age of 12 and 21 with education, health care, skill development and character building. This rally will share a part of its proceeds towards this cause.

In addition to all this, there is something more exciting to this year’s edition of the rally. There is a special category that brings the visually challenged together to participate in this rally. This category of ride will have one visually challenged participant reading out the route using the braille method, which, in turn, will be followed by participants to get to the finishing line.

Speaking on the occasion, K Srikanth, VP Sales & Marketing, Akshaya PVT LTD, said, “We are delighted to be a part of the Duchess Car Rally 2013. ‘Uncompromise’ being our core value of success, we are humbled to be a part of this noble cause that believes in uncompromising on girl child’s grooming and care.”

The event is open for cars of all engine capacities and categories including diesel cars and jeeps. The maximum number of women in each car is four. The rally will be held in five categories – Expert, Regular, Novice , Duchess and Blind. Entry fee per car is `1,000 (inclusive of lunch for four).
