Estranged live-in partner kills 22-yr-old woman

A 22-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her estranged live-in partner at her residence in Manali New Town, here on Monday evening.

Police said the deceased, Indumathi, separated from her husband Raj and began living with Suresh Babu (37), an employee of Ennore Foundries and a resident of Ennore, since last year.

Suresh, who was married, took care of her expenses as well. Meanwhile, Indumathi developed a relationship with another man Naresh, who was also living in the neighbourhood.

This irked Suresh Babu, who, around 3.30 pm on Monday, drove to the house in Manali New Town which Naresh had arranged for Indumathi 20 days ago.

Upon reaching the house, Suresh picked up a quarrel with Indumathi and in a fit of rage stabbed her in the throat, neck and chest with a kitchen knife. He then left the place.

Neighbours, who heard Indumathi screaming, checked on her only to find her lying in a pool of blood.

On information, Manali New Town Police Inspector K Thirumalai moved the body to the Stanley Medical  College Hospial for post-mortem.

Preliminary investigations revealed she had sustained six stab injuries which led to her death.

Sources said Indumathi sent her child Tejasree (4) to live with her grandmother after her husband came to know of her extra-marital affairs.

She got acquainted to Naresh six months ago, which led to frequent tiffs between Suresh and her. However, she chose to go with Naresh, who too was married.

“She had been into flesh trade as well. Her landlord had asked her to vacate the house since neighbours complained that several men were visiting her day and night,” a senior police official said.

Meanwhile, Suresh Babu surrendered before a court in Saidapet on Tuesday and was subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
