Silk, cotton expo begins

An 11-day exhibition of silk and cotton sarees as well as handicrafts began in the city recently. Rakesh Rai, Chief Executive of Abhivridhi, an association to assist artisans and weavers, revealed that more than 100 stalls featuring creations of artisans from right across India, “from Kashmir to Kanyakumari”, is open to the public. The event is being conducted under the banner of Silk and Crafts of India.

Of the 100 stalls, 75 are dedicated to selling silk and cotton sarees directly from the weavers to the public, ensuring a better price to the weavers for their handmade goods. The other stalls at the exhibition are selling handicrafts to the public.

The exhibition is being held at the Valluvar Kottam in Nungambakkam.
