Woman auto driver raped, hospitalised

A 40-year-old woman auto driver was raped at Vyasarpadi during the wee hours of Saturday.

Police said Muthulakshmi, who was also known as ‘Auto Rani’ because of her trade, had parked her autorickshaw in front of the vehicle’s owner Nallamani’s house on IV Cross Street in Sathyamoorthy Nagar when the incident occurred.

She was woken up by a trio who took her to a dark spot in the same street where they allegedly raped her after hitting her on the face to prevent her from screaming. Since the incident occurred at 2 am, the street was deserted. After raping her, the trio dumped her and scooted from the spot.

Muthulakshmi was rescued by the neighbours when they heard her cries.

She was then rushed to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital where she was treated for her injuries. She had lodged a complaint with Vyasarpadi Police who registered a case and are investigating.
