3 held for kidnapping engineering student

Three North Indian youth have been arrested for kidnapping an engineering student in Tambaram on July 10.

In his complaint lodged with the Tambaram police on July 15, Mushtaq Bin Rashid (25), a third year M Tech student in a private college, said that he was at a hotel in Tambaram with his friends on July 10, when an acquaintance Mahesh and another person came there and took away his ATM card, laptop and car keys.

Rashid alleged that they dragged him out of the hotel and forced him into their car. There were three others in the vehicle. Further, he was kept locked in a house in Anna Nagar, with his kidnappers demanding Rs 25 lakh for his release.

Rashid said he was shifted to another house on ECR Road early the next day and then to Purasavakkam. He claimed that he was forced to sign on stamp papers adding that he made his escape when his kidnappers were inebriated.

A special team was formed and it arrested Rohit (20) of Uttar Pradesh and Suraj (21) and Anand of Jharkhand on July 16. A search has been launched for Mahesh. Investigation showed that the arrested persons had jointly conspired to kidnap Rashid.
