Beeping bag triggers alarm at airport

Police officials and the bomb detection squad got an early start to Friday, after an unclaimed suitcase was noticed near the airport police station. Considering the fact that the baggage was found in such proximity to the police station at the rather odd time of 3.45 am, an alarm was raised immediately and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad was called in by the police.

Sources said that as soon as the bomb squad arrived the first thing they did was to sweep the device to detect any metal or explosive devices inside. To their consternation, the detectors started beeping. The bomb squad carefully opened the suitcase and proceeded to rifle through its contents. “It was then that they pulled out a laptop and a few rechargeable batteries from inside. That is what caused the detectors to beep,” said a police officer, who found the matter rather amusing in retrospect.

The suitcase was searched again and after they were certain that it wasn’t a security threat it was handed over to the airport manager.
