Nine-year-old boy killed in hit-and-run

A nine-year-old boy was killed after a goods-laden auto brushed against a school van’s window on which the boy was resting his head, at Kollumed near Periyapalayam in Tiruvallur, on Monday evening.

Police said Divakaran, 9, son of Eeswaran, was a Class IV student at a leading private school.

Meanwhile, two other persons died in separate road accidents near Guduvancherry on Sunday night, police said.

Police said Vadivel, (30), succumbed to the injuries he sustained when his bike skidded while he was riding on Nellikuppam Road late on Sunday at Chengalpet GH. The accident occurred on July 16 near Nandivaram and the victim suffered severe head injuries.

In another incident, Balasubramanian, (47), a railway staff working as a mechanic at Chennai Egmore Railway Station, was knocked down to death by a speeding bike while he was crossing the road near Srinivasapuarm in Guduvancherry on Sunday night.

The bike rider who was heading to Tambaram from Chengalpet could not avoid Balasubramanian due to overspeeding. Balasubramanian was knocked down sustaining severe head injuries and died on the spot.
