70 year old man killed in tiff over cards

A 70-year-old man, who worked as a private security guard, was allegedly beaten to death while playing cards at Puzhal Lake Bund in Venkatapuram on Friday night.

Police said Velayudham, a native of Tiruvallur who stayed in Mogappair, was found dead with injuries on the head and other body parts around 8.30 pm.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he was playing cards and could have entered into a brawl, which led to his death.

Woman succumbs

A 22-year-old woman succumbed to her burns at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital on Friday.

Jayanthi, a resident of Thirunindravur who was in live-in relationship with one Karunankaran, was found with burns all over her body on Wednesday night.

Jayanthi reportedly set herself ablaze after a tiff with Karunakaran who has been detained by police.
