Another aged church, after the CSI Wesley Tamil Aalayam, on the dusty Broadway stretch developed a crack, due to the continued drilling of Chennai Metro Rail Limited’s (CMRL) tunnel boring machines. The Arcot Lutheran Church which has been functioning there since 1892, developed a prominent crack on one wall, sometime during Sunday night.
Church staff found the more-than-a-metre-long crack on Monday morning and rushed to the CMRL office on Broadway and asked authorities to inspect the damage. By noon, engineers from Metro Rail reached the scene and inspected the extent of the crack, and apparently promised to repair the damage soon.
