Rs 64 lakh for 'Message on wheels'

While observing World Environment Day, the Environment Department of the State, has some important plans in order to balance the environment along with developments. A press release from the department has said that through ICRA, the final draft of Tamil Nadu’s State Environment Policy has been submitted to the government.

It also added that the areas which have environmental significance, have been allocated with `30 lakh zone-wise, in order to prepare environment reports. This year, the department has plans to establish environment information centres at ten places worth Rs 20 lakhs. Besides, each district is to have ‘Message on wheels’ scheme worth `64 lakh, to disseminate the information pertained to environment. Under this scheme each district will be allocated `2 lakh, the release added.

Attributing its contribution to protect the environment, TNPCB has said  three more zonal offices will be established this year in order to monitor the industries.

Also, measures are taken by the board to establish continued water monitoring instruments at river Thamirabharani, this year, the press note claimed.

In order to monitor the air pollution in the Chennai Corporation, the board is to establish continuous air monitoring stations at five places and one mobile air monitoring station in the near future, the release added.
