Healthcare made better with cutting edge tools

Healthcare Technology Innovation Centre (HTIC), an offshoot of the R&D Centre of IIT Madras, has partnered with National Instruments (NI), a leading technology supplier, for inducting high-end tools to aid in their affordable healthcare research segment.

The MoU was officially signed between the two partners here recently.

Speaking about the partnership, Mohanasankar, head, HTIC, said: “NI’s partnership and the technologies that they bring to the table will enable us to shorten the time needed for going from conception stage to prototype.” He explained that through this partnership, HTIC would gain new design and development platforms that would be useful in their research. He further said that collaboration was of paramount importance in every field of research and even more so in the healthcare arena, where time is crucial. He said, “This partnership will allow us to quickly move the newly-developed devices for field testing and validation.”

Jayaram Pillai, managing director of NI, who signed the MoU on behalf of NI, explained that the main contribution of NI in this partnership would be in Graphical System Design Platform. Further explaining about the aim of this partnership, he said, “This has been chiefly conceived to help promote product development and also enable the large scale deployment of affordable healthcare devices.”

Answering a question about the extent of this partnership, Mohanasundaram said, “NI will contribute both monetarily and technologically to HTIC.” He further mentioned, “On contract basis, the duration of this partnership will be three years. However, we are keen to continue it for a much longer term.”
