Training in solar power technology

The Entrepreneur Development Institute (EDI), Chennai, will organise two training programs, one for solar professionals and entrepreneurs and the other for solar technicians (installers and operators) as full-time and part-time program from October 5.

The first program aims at promoting self employment opportunities like the creation of small scale enterprises based on solar power, while the second program aims at the generation of wage-employment generation. Conducted from Monday to Friday across 10 weekends, each full time program will comprise total of 120 hours.

The candidates will be taught about the opportunities in solar power generation and solar products. Technical inputs will be in the form of design and cost details, installation, manufacture and marketing of solar electric systems and products. Procedural guidance to set up enterprises based on solar power, preparation of a viable business plan and schemes of financial assistance, including incentives/ concessions offered by government for promoting solar energy will also be discussed.

Candidates possessing degree/diploma/ITI qualification and of age 18 years and above (no upper age limit) are eligible to apply. Copies of relevant marksheets, TC, and 2 passport-size photos are to be provided for admission into the programme. Admission will be on ‘first-come, first- served’ basis.

The courses will cost `17,000 each (including course materials and everyday lunch) and will be conducted from 10 am to 5 pm (for both full-time and part-time programmes). Candidates can avail applications at EDI in Guindy on weekdays between 10 am and 6 pm and on Saturdays between 10 am and 2 pm. Training will be held at Tamil Nadu Industrial Training Centre (TATTI), Anna Salai, Chennai, which is the knowledge partner for the programme.
