Police seized around one tonne of red sanders on Friday after they inspected a truck parked on the roadside at Rajamangalam following a tip off.

Four persons were arrested, police said, adding that they smuggled the wood on instructions of a kingpin, who is yet to be identified.

Police said the source of the smuggled wood was not clear as the arrested persons had little knowledge of the racket. “They were handed over the wood just to keep them safe. They don’t know where the goods were to be taken,” said a police officer.
