CHENNAI: Less than two weeks shy of what would have been their 24th wedding anniversary, celebrity couple Lissy and Priyadarshan have filed for divorce.
In a short statement, Lissy announced that she had begun divorce proceedings in the family court in Chennai on Monday. “It is with profound sadness that I would like to inform that myself and Priyadarshan have decided to separate after nearly 24 years of marriage,” she said.
Talk about the famed yesteryear actor’s separation from the eccentric but successful director began in January, when media reports emerged that she walked out. However, by February, both Lissy and Priyadarshan made a joint statement that all was well between them and all the rumours had only brought them closer.
The Kanchivaram and Garam Masala filmmaker has been working on a Malayalam film for the last year. Sadly, people who claimed to be close to Lissy told Express that they had observed signs of her under immense stress for the last three months.
“There were a lot of times when she came out and appeared in public but it was very rarely with him. She also avoided talking about her marriage when possible and opted to speak about her kids instead,” said a socialite, who has been snapped with Lissy several times.
“It was evident about a month ago that things were going to end between them. We just didn’t know when.” Lissy’s statement added that their decision to divorce had been communicated to ‘close friends and family’. Contacts to reach Lissy were futile.
