Exclusive Neonatal Theatre at ICH

CHENNAI: Work on setting up an exclusive neonatal operation theatre at the Institute of Child Health and Hospital will start soon, with the State government releasing `1.30 crore to Public Works Department.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Dr S Srinivasan, coordinator, State Nodal Centre-National Rural Health Mission at the Institute of Child Health, said the second floor of the hospital in the old campus would be remodelled to house a two-tabled operation theatre, High Dependency Care Unit (HDCU), a post-operative care ward with eight beds and paediatric surgical ward.

“This will provide immediate care to the newborns (0-30 days). Delay in surgery for newborns will deteriorate their health and in most of the cases turn fatal unlike young children. So these children require immediate intervention”, he added.
