CHENNAI: The magic of Rajesh Khanna, better known as the first super star of Bollywood, was relived through a tribute show by Satrangi at TN Rajarathinam Auditorium recently.

Singers Pramod Nair and Preethi Rao brought before the audience an ensemble of songs from different films that featured the actor, performing songs from the best films of his career. The evening was joyful, staying true to the title of the programme — Yeh Shaam Mastani.

Think of Rajesh Khanna, and one is sure to remember his remarkable performances in the movies Kati Patang, Amar Prem, Anand, Safar, Mere Jeevan Saathi, Andaz, Aap Ki Kasam, Daag and Mehboob Ki Mehndi among others. Besides the storyline and his performances, the songs in these movies had also struck a chord with the viewers, making them an inseparable part of his career.

The songs, mostly romantic numbers, that were performed by the duo included Gun guna rahe hain bhavre, Gulabi aankhein jo teri dekhi, Bheegi bheegi raaton main, ye laal rang kab mujhe chodega, rehna beeti jaye and O mere dil ke chain, among others. The songs, sung in perfect notes, sent the audience on a journey into the melodius past.
