Man Given 10-yr RI for Raping Teenager

CHENNAI: The Mahila Court, Chennai, on Friday sentenced a 24-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment on charges of raping a minor girl.

Premkumar (24), of Pulianthope, fell in love with Sumathi (17) (name changed) residing opposite to his house. On June 24, 2012, Sumathi preferred a complaint with the Pulianthope All-Woman Police Station, alleging that Premkumar had  sexually exploited her several times after promising to marry her but didn’t.

Based on the complaint, Premkumar was arrested on the charges of sections 376 (Rape), 416 (Cheating by personation), and 417 (Cheating). He was later sent to judicial custody in Puzhal prison.
