60-yr-old Held for Sexually Abusing teen in Orphanage

CHENNAI: A 60-year-old care taker of a orphanage in Aranvoyal Village in Tiruvallur was arrested by the police for allegedly sexually harassing a minor girl, who happened to be an inmate of the orphanage.

According to police, the incident came to light after the 13-year- old, who had been undergoing sexual abuse at the hands of one Vijayan, the care taker of the home, complained to her mother Mary (39). Mary had left the child under the care of the orphanage on account of being a widow and with no means to take care of her daughter.

On Saturday, she had come to the orphanage to visit her daughter. During the course of the conversation, she narrated the ordeal to her mother. Immediately with the help of an NGO, Mary lodged a complaint with the Tiruvallur police station following which the accused was arrested.

About 57 inmates of the home were shifted to Sevalaya home in Thiruninravur, after the incident. Police also sealed the home and further investigations are on.
