CHENNAI: A 60-year-old care taker of a orphanage in Aranvoyal Village in Tiruvallur was arrested by the police for allegedly sexually harassing a minor girl, who happened to be an inmate of the orphanage.
According to police, the incident came to light after the 13-year- old, who had been undergoing sexual abuse at the hands of one Vijayan, the care taker of the home, complained to her mother Mary (39). Mary had left the child under the care of the orphanage on account of being a widow and with no means to take care of her daughter.
On Saturday, she had come to the orphanage to visit her daughter. During the course of the conversation, she narrated the ordeal to her mother. Immediately with the help of an NGO, Mary lodged a complaint with the Tiruvallur police station following which the accused was arrested.
About 57 inmates of the home were shifted to Sevalaya home in Thiruninravur, after the incident. Police also sealed the home and further investigations are on.
Body to be Exhumed
With the police cracking the murder of a 22-year-old, who allegedly went missing on November 30, they are all set to exhume the body of the deceased for an autopsy on Monday.
Police said Suresh (22), engaged in pig rearing, had been missing since November 30 and the suspicion fell on one Munusamy and his son in-law Arumugam.
During interrogation, the duo confessed to have strangulated Suresh with a nylon net that is used for catching pigs. They later dumped the body in a plastic can that’s meant for storing pig’s food and carried it to a place that belonged to a private company and buried it there. A police officer said, “Suresh had sexually misbehaved with Arumugam’s 7-year-old daughter, a few day ago. Angered by this, Arumugam and Munusamy had assaulted him. They had strangled him to death,” said a police officer.
Police further said that a formal complaint will be lodged on Monday by the Village Administration Officer (VAO) and that the body would be exhumed under the supervision of Ambattur Tahsildar Latha.
