CHENNAI: The Mahila Court here has awarded 10 years’ imprisonment to a tuition teacher on charges of sexually assaulting a Class 11 student in November 2012.
According to prosecution, the accused S Kannan (38), a resident of Guindy, called the girl to the tuition centre after her regular classes. He then sexually assaulted the girl.
A week later, along with her parents, the girl lodged a police complaint against Kannan. Based on the complaint, Guindy police registered a case under sections 376 (rape) and 354 (outraging the modesty of women). Kannan was remanded to judicial custody at the Puzhal prison. When the case came up for final hearing on Wednesday, Judge Meena Sathish sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment.
