CHENNAI: The Metropolitan Transport Corporation has suspended 12 drivers, caught on using mobile phone while on the wheels during a special drive in the last 10 days.
Special squads were formed on selective routes to track erring drivers and conductors after MTC helpline was flooded with complaints.
A MTC official said, the helpline was receiving persistent complaints from passengers about a few drivers using cell phones while on duty, along with other complaints like not stopping in the bus stand, conductors issuing tickets by remaining in their seats etc, which amount to negligence of duty.
