A Royal Tree to Get a Christmas High

CHENNAI: Santa Claus, Christmas songs, reindeers and a giant Christmas tree embellished with lights — what better way to celebrate the festival?

Le Royal Meridian joined the celebrations by unveiling the tallest Christmas tree — 32-feet high. It is not just the height which catches one’s attention, but the number of trees that were used for it. The organisers said that a total of 291 trees were placed on a circular platform, and about 20 staff from house-keeping and engineering sections were involved in setting up the tree, in eight days.

The Christmas tree was unveiled by pastor Devaprasad. He also delivered the Christmas message by talking about Jesus Christ’s birth, the message that the festival propagates and the reason behind the celebrations.

Adding to the aura of the fest, was a pastry shop, which was inaugurated by actor Bobby Simha of Jigarthanda fame.

Palani G Periyasamy, general manager, said, “Christmas is a festival which encourages sharing among people. And since it arrives at the end of the year, it is like putting an end to one’s woes and joining in the celebration.”
