CHENNAI: An exhibition of paintings titled ‘Spectrum of Expressions’ by Kolkata-based artists Eleena Banik and S Natraj, which is on at Sandy’s Chocolate Laboratory, Nungambakkam, takes us through a journey of colourful landscapes.
Colours are Banik’s vocabulary. Her art pieces are submerged in a splash of pink, deep sea blue, orange, sombre green, elegant brown, ochre, yellow, red, royal purple, black and white. The multi-layered background of colours are loosely but deftly, bound together on the canvas.
Natraj’s water colour series portray the essence of daydreaming, where one is neither completely asleep nor awake. The artist’s select range of subjects like bicycles, trees, birds, men, women and free-floating clouds shows his thirst to wander into a fantasy world. His works reveal a mixture of the skill he has developed over the years, and his personal views about life and world around him.
Natraj’s paintings include birds sitting on trees and flowers blooming from the head of a sleeping man. His artistic impressions demonstrate a fertile imagination, and underline a man’s strong empathy towards nature. He expresses the togetherness between man and animal, and reality and fantasy. His canvases are reminders of a tension-free placid life, sense of emptiness and dreamed reality.
The exhibition is on till January 28.
