Mexican Flavours and Pecan Pie

Mexican Flavours and Pecan Pie

CHENNAI: Habanero, a Tex Mex (a blend of Texan and Mexican cuisines) restaurant, was inaugurated at the Phoenix MarketCity recently. Habanero is an idea conceived by couple Griffith David, a native of India, and Elizabeth Bowden-David, who is from the US.

Habanero, which has its presence in Bengaluru, has a menu comprising nachos, burritos, quesadillas and burgers, as well as grilled chicken breasts, fish, and tenderloin. In the drinks section there are margaritas and sangria to complement the flavours of the cuisine.  As for the desserts, there are Mexican tres leches cake and pecan pie.

Talking to CE after the inauguration of the restaurant by John Fleming, Principal Commercial Officer, of the US Commercial Service, US Consulate, Elizabeth said they chose Chennai for its dynamic atmosphere. “Chennai was a natural choice for us. It is a dynamic metropolis whose people have demonstrated openness and curiosity about different cuisines. It is also home to large numbers of residents from other parts of India and indeed the world.”

She added that the heterogeneous population, those who understand Tex Mex cuisine and others who would experience it for the first time, would be equally delighted by its offerings. “In Bengaluru, we host a lot of families, corporate groups, and gatherings of friends. It’s fun for me to see a mix of people who know Tex-Mex cuisine well alongside those who are discovering it for the first time,” she added.

With a meal for two ranging between `900 and `1,500, Habanero’s next stop is Hyderabad.

Habanero is located at First Floor, Phoenix MarketCity, No 142, Velachery Main Road, Velachery.
